am searchingfor descendants of mygrgradfther, Isaac Chatham, b about 1810in NC, perhaps Caswell County. Family legend has it that he married a fll-blooded Cherokee Indian, and because of this his father disinherited him. The first listing Ican find of him is in the Wilson County, TN 1850 Census, as follows: Chatham - Isaac 40,Susan 17, Benjamin 18, Mary 17 William 16, Nancy 9, James 7. Susan is a second wife, the marriage listed in Wilson County Marriaages in 1849. She is the dughter of Pleasant Johnson, a neighbor, wo was also a neighbor in Caswell County, NC. I do not know what happened to the first wife who was Cherokee, butshe most likely died. She is,presumably, the mother of all the children. The next time I find a record of Isaac, he is listed in the1855-56 Nasville City Directory as a shoemaker, and living with son William. William was my grandfather. The next mention I can find of Isaac is in the1860 Davidson County (Nashville), TN Census. Also living with him are sons William and James. Also living there is a James 36, born in NC, most likel Isaac's brother, and a Mary, age 9, born Chrokee Nation, most likely daughter of Isaac's brother James. The last listing I can find of Isaac is in the 1882 Nashville City Directory. Nwhere in any of the places Isaac lived in Nashville is there a mention of second wife Susan. Pesumably, she also died. I do not know when Isaac died or where he is buried. I have had a contact with a grgrandson of Benjamin, who lives in Virginia, but have not been able to get an information about Benjamin. William, my grandfather, died in Nashville in 1911, but I do not know where he is buried. i have been incontact with a cousin, the daughter of my father's oldest sister5, who has followed through on the Indian relationship, and she is the chief of an Indian group and a member of their senate. I have also made contact and have seen the great granddaughter of another of my dad's sisters, who lives in Arizona. I have not been able to contact anyone in Wilson County, TN who is descended from Isaac. I do know that son James enlisted in a Tennessee regiment in the War between the States, and was killed at the Battle of Chicamauga (GA) near Chattanooga, TN. I would like very much to contacyt anyone who is descended from Isaac Chatham, or from any of his children, or anyone who knows anything about any of them. If there is anyone who reads this who can give me any information, I would appreciate it6 very muchDoyle Chatham (DCHATHAM@webtv.net) Notify Administrator about this message?
