Steve,
Your posting on George Washington Chatham (Sr.) caught my attention because my ggrandfather had the same name, George Washington Chatham, and I've been unable to link to his father. He was born in 1854, younger brother of William R. Chatham, born in 1851. Family lore has it that they were two "orphan boys". They appear in the 1860 Census for Toshimingo County, MS, living in the household of Nathan Boon Foster and his wife Martha. Marriage records show that Martha Chattam (sic) married Nathan B. Foster in 1857 in Toshimingo County. I don't know whether Martha was an older sister (she was just 13 years older than William) or the mother (could have had a child at 13). Chattam/Chatham could have been her surname or her married name before she married Foster. Is there anything in your research that would suggest a connection?
Jimmy Chatham
