Here is what your Uncle Jack can remember, it's not much but it may give you a few more avenues to pursue.
Wallace Chasteen was 1st married to Mary Ford Chasteen who died when your grandfather was about 4 years old. Wallace then married Ruth Johnson. Wallace & Mary only had two children---your grandfather and his sister Blanche. Wallace's father's name was William.
Your grandfather was born in Hamilton,Ohio. They may have originally been from Kentucky or W.Va.
Have you sent for death certificates from the state of Ohio? They are $10.00 each and usually list the parents name including the mother's maiden name.
