Hello,
I read your posting on GenForum. I would love to be able to purchase the book your mentioned on the Chasteen. I have been doing research for my husband's birth family. He was adopted at birth and after 46 years we have been able to find his birth families. There have been wonderful, loving and fully accepting reunions on all sides. The only sad part is Bob's birth father died in 1979.
Once we found his father's family, we found they knew VERY little of their own family history other than their Grandparents' names.
I have spent the past three years searching and finding much on this wonderful family. However, I am STUCK with Bob's Great Grandfather, JAMES RICHARD CHASTEEN.
I have him on the 1920 Okmulgee, OK census and all the way up to 1940 on land deeds and the 1930 census for Okmulgee also. I have Bob's Grandmother's marriage license (Alice Ida Chasteen m. Virgil Finis Mantooth, 1930, Okmulgee, OK). They lived in Seminole, OK, where several young children are buried.
Bob's father's siblings have told me about family members they remember and I have traced several of these people. As follows:
1. Maney Benjamin Chasteen ("Uncle Maney), found on 1910 census Okmulgee, OK, living with his mother Alice Wall (she first married Robert J. Chasteen as Katie Alice (Ida) Huckaby in 1882, Sugarloaf, Sebastian County, Ark. - I have their marriage license) They had three children (Maney Benjamin, Martin, and Annie Eveline). Maney is buried in Little Cemetary, Little, Seminole County, OK. along with Edward and Ethel Wall (child of the second marriage for Katie Alice (Ida) Huckaby/Chasteen/Wall).
2. Martin Chasteen. Son of Robert J. Chasteen and Katie Alice (Ida) Huckaby. Married Leona Gage in 1905. I have their marriage license. Martin is on the 1910 Okmulgee Census along with wife Leona and daughter Alice I.. After that, there is ABSOLUTELY NO FURTHER information available on Martin.
3. Annie Eveline Chasteen. Daughter of Robert J. Chasteen and Katie Alice (Ida) Huckaby. First married Lawrence Gage, Secod married Samuel Eli Fletcher, Third married Charles French. Lived in Eufala, OK, Quinton, OK and finally California. I have her death cert.
4. Bob's Grandmother, Alice Ida Chasteen. Born 1907 to James Richard Chasteen and unknown mother. Mother died when Alice Ida was young. James Richard remarried Leona Gage. No information on James Richard or this Leona Gage prior to the 1920 Okmulgee, OK census. Alice Ida Chasteen married Virgil Finis Mantooth in 1930. They had many children. I have all this information. They then divorced. She then married a William Holliday. After William Holiday died, Alice Ida then remarried Virgil Finis Mantooth. They stayed together until their deaths. They both are buried in Calvin, OK at the Blueridge Cemetary.
5. Children of James Richard Chasteen and unknown mother: Alice Ida, Charles, and James Franklin.
6. Charles married a Pearl and they had Patsy Ann. Charles and Pearl then divorced. Charles and Patsy Ann moved to Illinois.
7. James Franklin married Jewel and had two children. They then divorced. James Franklin Chasteen moved to Texas, remarried and had several more children. He died in Galveston, TX area. His son, Dwayne is listed on the Chasteen GenForum looking for information on his Uncle Charles. We have been in contact and I have put him in contact with his cousins, Bob's father's siblings.
Areas where I need help is:
1. Where was James Richard born and who were his parents?
2. Who was James Richard's first wife?
3. What happened to Martin Chasteen?
4. Did James Richard Chasteen have any siblings?
5. Where the Chasteen(s) living in the Tulsa, Broken Bow, Okmulgee, Seminole area all kin to James Richard Chasteen?
Lots more questions, but those will do for now.
Can you help or can you point me to someone who might have some answers?
