Searching for the parents and family of my step great grandmother, Nina Chastain Vandergrift/Vandergriff Tolbert. Nina's second marriage was to my great grandfather, Dainwood Carey Tolbert (also his second marriage). Nina raised the infant children of my great grandfather and the children knew her as there mother. Little is known about Nina'a birth parents or family. Her marriage license to Dainwood Carey Tolbert (Date of marriage was November 11, 1911.) indicates that her parents were Thomas and Lavern or Louann Chastain. Nina was born in Sedalia, MO circa 1883. Family lore indicates that her birth family was a family of means. Nina told a story about her and her mother taking a journey by stagecoach to Dallas, TX. During the course of the journey they met Frank and Jesse James. If you have any information about this family, I would love to hear from you.
