Leroy was married before and had John and Sarah (I have no info on the previous mrg. or the childrens' births).

CHASTEEN, John Junior, b: abt. Oct. 1853 in Laclede, MO, m: Laura HUGAR, b: abt. Sept. 1858 in MO: Children: Leroy J., Henry, Samuel H., Hala C. (Mahala, Haley, Hallie), Benjamin V., Jesse, Andrew, Jane, Sarah L. (all but Leroy listed with or near parents in 1900 Dallas Co., MO Census)
