Looking for help on the Chastain family of Gilmer Co., GA. It seems that most of the Chastain's of Gilmer Co., GA were descendants of Rev. John Chastain. There were at least three other Chastain men who were in Gilmer Co., GA in the 1840's who do not seem to be connected to Rev. John Chastain. One was James Witt Chastain born 1826 SC and married Jane Powell in 1846 in Gilmer Co., GA moved to Gordon Co. GA by 1850. Another one was Benjamin Chastain b. 1824 SC and married Ruth Prather in 1846 in Gilmer Co., GA moved to Gordan Co., GA by 1850. The third one was my ancestor James Witt Chastain born 1813 in NC and married Elizabeth Smith (cousin of Ruth Prather) in 1840 Gilmer Co., GA. They remained in Gilmer Co., GA until the 1860's.
Out of Rev. John Chastain's brothers, Rev. James Chastain was living in NC in 1813 and was in SC by 1820. It looks like Rev. James Chastain could possibly be the ancestor of these three men.
Does anyone have any information on Rev. James Chastain and his children that they can share.
