Hi Patricia,

Some of the information I have came from Chastain researchers and is supported by censuses. Elijah Chastain born c1775 married Catherine Carson c1819 in Haywood County NC, his third wife (after divorcing his first two wives). Rene Marion Chastain born 24 June 1839 GA died 16 Jan 1919 is their son. In the Gilmer GA 1850 census, Elijah and Catherine Chastain household includes "Remmy" or "Renny" age 11, listed as a female but is actually a male (censuses were transribed later in most cases). The first name was "Rene" which is a French name (the Chastains were French Hugeonots).
