Jonathan Kimsey Chastain, b. June 25, 1840, to Rev. Johathan Davis and Rachel Stover Chastain in Gilmer Co., Ga. Jonathan served in the 10th REgiment of the Tenn. Cavalry Volunteers. He married Alberta Jane Hipp, dau. of John Noah and Martha Ann Mathis Hipp on Sept. 28, 1865, in Gilmer Co., Ga. The had 9 children and with them moved to Maershall Co., Ala. in Jan. 1891. Alberta died Apr. 8, 1865. On Sept. 4, 1902, Jonathan married Margaret K. Roden. Jonathan died Mar. 1, 1931 and is buried in the Gilliam Springs Church Cemetery. Margaret died Sept. 17, 1959.
The children: Martha Ann (7/12/1867 - 6/4/1963) m. Jefferson D. Edmondson; John Calvin (1869-1951) m. Lula Mobbs; Rachel Armitty (1871-1960) m Thomas E. Gibbs; Ellar Josyphean (1874-1949) m. Wm. E. Anderson; Mary Elizabeth (1876-1950) m James H. Mobbs; Harley ( 1880-1904) m. Sallie Haynes; Bertie ( 1883-1950) m. Elbert Rhinehart; Joseph Brownlow (1887-1942) m. Alma Quilla Dendy; Margaret Frances (1885-1959); Margaret Frances (1885-1959) never married.
