GA) Friday, September 7, 1962, Page 1: "Eton Man Dies As Vehicle Overturns---A 48-year old Eton man was killed in a traffic mishap about 7 p.m. Thursday in Murray County, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The victim was listed as Emmitt Chastain, a carpet inspector at Southeastern Rug Mills in Chatsworth. Troopers M.C. Moore and W.E. Snider said Chastain was a passenger in a 1961 Rambler station wagon driven by William Earl Thomas, 45, of Rt. 4, Chatsworth, who works at the same rug mill. Chastain received internal injuries and died after arrival at the Murray County Memorial Hospital. A native of Madisonville, [Monroe Co.] Tenn., Chastain had lived at Eton and had been employed by the rug firm for about five months. Among the survivors are a wife and six children. The body was returned to Madisonville for burial. The troopers said the station wagon was traveling on the Spring Place-Calhoun Road and attempted to make a left turn off this highway onto Brown Bridge Road. The vehicle ran off the road and overturned. No charges were made against the driver." Notify Administrator about this message?
