Sure you already know all this, but just in case...
Edward Bruce Chastain and his wife Nancy Malvina Rogers moved to Arkansas from Walker Co. Ga. c. 1843. They are shown in the 1850 Crawford Co. Ark. census. Crawford and Sebastian (which you mention) Co's in Ark. are adjacent. In the late 1840's, Joseph Carleton Chastain and his wife Eliz. Nicholson left Union Co. Ga. and moved west, eventually reaching Crawford Co. Ark. Edward and Joseph were the youngest (14th and 15th) children of Edward Brigand Chastain and Hannah Brown. They were both apparently born (1809 and 1814) in Haywood Co. N.C. In the early 1820's the family moved to Habersham Co. Ga. then to Union Co. Ga.
You state "James R. Chasteen, b. 1886..was born in Arkansas and both his parents were born in Georgia." This would fit if he were a grandson of either Edward Bruce or Joseph C. Chastain, via a son born in the 1840's. A son born before their move west would have been born in Ga. and they would have had children born in Arkansas. unfortunately, I don't have a list of their grandchildren, but I'm sure someone here does, or that you can find it in one of the Kith and Kin Chastain references.
Some of the Chastains later moved into Oklahoma. Joseph C. Chastain was there, in Indian territory, in the 1890's when he signed a statement supporting his sister in law's widow's pension application. A descendent of Joseph's wrote me "The Kith & Kin book states Joseph Chastain died in Greenwood, AR. However he is buried in Red Oak, Latimer Co., Ok. I was at the cemetery ...and his tombstone reads that he died 31 Dec 1896."
