Chason Family Genealogy Forum

I'm inclined to think that Sarah Jane was the correct name, Here's why. In the 1870 Jackson County FL census we find a Sarah J. Chason age 31 living in the household of Elijah McCarty, age 60 and with her is her child Jane Chason, age 9. It was a common practice in those days to name children for their parents. I have reason to believe that child was named Elizabeth Jane and that her mother's name was Sarah Jane. On the otherhand, the Decatur County Marriage records say her name was Sarah Anne. Those records have been known to be wrong. For example (assuming the Marriage index on the Web copied correctly) you'll find a David Chason listed. I am sure that person was actually Daniel Webster Chason.
