Hi Christine,
Nope, I'm not related, just a good Samaritan. It looks like Reginald IS in the social security death index.....he is listed with the first name of "Reg", and died in Broward County, Pompno Beach, Florida, in November of 1979. Birthdate matches up. The SSDI is a database where you have to use exact spellings...they will not give you alternatives, so nothing came up when I looked for "reginald" On the Broward County genweb page, there is info on ordering death notices/obits. They cost money, but they also suggest putting in a query on the Broward County page and seeing if you can get a volunteer.
I looked in the Detroit paper for a death notice for Ruby, and there wasn't one. I cannot go back further than 2001 in the online archive to check for his. His was issued in Michigan as well, so they must have settled here at some point.
The sight I mentioned is free: www.familysearchlabs.org. Sometimes there will be a little black box next to the name you are interested in, and if you click that on. you get to see the actual record, but you must have Adobe Flash player to do that. Just keep in mind the sight is not all-inclusive....just because it's not in there, doesn't mean what you are looking for doesn't exist.
Enjoy!
