I am confused by your post, but perhaps I just misunderstood it. Sarah CHARLES was m. to the William BACKUS b. 1606. She d. 9 Feb 1642/43, and had been m. before 1632, as her daughter Mary BACKUS was b. abt 1632. They had a son William b. 1640, and this appears to be the William that you are referring to, but his wife was Elizabeth PRATT b. 1 Feb 1641/42 and d. 1730, they were m. 11 May 1660.
William BACKUS b. 1606 and his wife Sarah CHARLES had 5 children: Sarah, Unknown female, Mary, William b. 1640 and Stephen b. 3 Jan 1640/41.
If I did not misunderstand your post, then would you be kind enough to let me know what the sources for your information is.
