Mollie, I just saw this posting on Phillip Charles in KY. I just started researching the Charles' family so that's why I didn't see this earlier. Phillip Charles ends up being my 4th great-grandfather. He was married to Fanny Powell. They had a son named William, who was married to a lady named Mary "Polly." Their son, Jacob was married to Trinvilla Johnson and they had a son named Joseph Louis Charles, who was married to Mabel Cox. Their daughter was Olive Charles, my Grandmother! The Charles family ended up moving to Danville, Illinois (Vermilion Co.) -- I have plenty more family members in my database if you tie in with this family.

I also saw the census that you are talking about with James and Phillip and was wondering if they were brothers or father/son. It looks more like they were brothers, but I'm not sure.

If you are related to Phillip, how do you fit in the bunch? I just met a new cousin (over the internet) named Anna Charles that lives in Vermilion Co. She is descended from Jacob and Trinvilla's son named John William Charles. I'm anxious to see if you are related!

Sharon (Thompson) Speigle
