Hi Walter,

Thanks so much for the interesting information you have posted. I certainly appreciate your taking the time to post these documents to me. When we arrived at the Will of Sarah Cookeson I instead came to another conclusion. Let me throw this back to you for your review:

We see the following notation in the will: "I give one moiety thereof unto Sarah Mason, one of the daughters of my brother James Mason, and to her heirs, or in default to Grace Mason, Dorothy Mason and Anne Mason, other daughters of my said brother; and of the other moiety I give the rents to the use of Elizabeth Wingfield, now wife of Philip Wingfield, for the term of her life, and after her decease the said moiety shall be and remain unto my goddaughter Sarah Wingfield and her heirs.

Now from the above I read that Sarah Cookeson's maiden name was Mason. That her brother James Mason had daughters Sarah, Grace, Dorothy and Anne Mason.

That Sarah Cookeson, nee Mason, also had a sister named Alice Mason that married a Chappell and that she is now a widow. That Alice Mason Chappell had children: John, Stephen, Francis and Elizabeth Chappell. \

It also appears that Sarah Cookeson had a brother named Wingfield but we know nothing about him other than
Sarah's death's-head which had Wingfield's name on it.

Then we arrive at this paragraph where Sarah names her sister in law Margaret Chappell but from there it appears just as you have written that Sarah was a Chappell. Thus in the following was Sarah so close to her deceased husband's family that to her the Chappells were as close as her mason line or am I missing something:

<< to my sister in law Margaret Chappell £5; to my brother John Chappell £10; to my nephew Francis Chappell's three childen £5 each; to my brother Thomas Chappell's daughter £10; to Richard Cookeson now living in Virginia £50; to Frizell Cookeson, sister to said Richard, £20, to be paid unto Stephen Chappell, clerk, son to my late brother Steven Chappell, deceased; and to John Wilcocks, son to my brother John Wilcocks, £10. And as to the messuage and lands in Edgware and Kingsbury, I give one moiety thereof unto Sarah Mason, one of the daughters of my brother James Mason, and to her heirs, or in default to Grace Mason, Dorothy Mason and Anne Mason, other daughters of my said brother>>

Help Please!!

Carolyn
