Hi Walter,
Thanks so much for the information you've shared with me. I've been going through documents this morning and also books I own in hopes of being able to reply to the Hulday Chappell.
The following notes Thomas Chappell3, a Quaker, m. Hannah Hunnicutt and lived in Prince George Co.
1. Thomas1 Chappell, aged 23 in 1635, sailed from Gravesend on June 23, 1635, and settled in Charles City co. Va., on the southside of the James river near what was known as early as Nov. 1635, as "Chappell's Creek." Issue: 2. Thomas2 who m. Elizabeth, dau. of James Jones, of Prince George co. Va., and d. in Charles City co., 1694-1704. Issue: 3. Samuel3, m. Elizabeth, dau. of John Scott, and d. in Surry co. Va., 1748-9; 4. Thomas3, a Quaker, m. Hannah Hunnicutt; lived in Prince George; 5. Robert3, of Prince George, whose will (1724) mentions wife Sarah and children, Robert, Sarah, Mary, Ann, John, and James; 6. James3; 7. daughter3, m. John Williams.
Keeping in mind that Thomas Chappell III was a Quaker and married to Hannah, I have located the following notations for Hulday Chappell in Charles City Co. Orders:
The Symons hath order for dedimus to examine Hulday Chappell, a witness to the last will of Jno. Stith, dec'd.(page 220, 1687-1695 Charles City Co. VA Court Orders)
Next, going back to Thomas Chappell a quaker listed above,
Will of Jno. Smith dec'd dated 17 Feb. 1675 is now proved by oaths of Jno. Lanier and Wm. Harrison and alsoaffirmation of Hulday Chappell, who being a Quaker, refuses to swear.
The closest date in this book is below on another matter and shown as 4th day of October Anne 1689.
Now, once again we see the Chappells and the Laniers in the same document. I too have become quite curious as to a prior Lanier and Chappell marriage say back in England perhaps? Will continue to research this theory and share with you anything I'm able to locate.
Two documents below for Wike Hunnicutt:
(Page 778) Prince George Co. VA Wills & Deeds 1713-1728:
Dec. 21, 1724George Bleighton of Martins Brandon Parish, Pr. George Co. to Robert Hall of same for 90, 562 acres lying on the Ponds Run in same parish and county bounded by line dividing Roert Hall and William Colgill's land. The said 562 acres were laid off from a greater tract now belonging to the said George Bleighton, a parcel of land sold to Thomas Wright Sparrow Feb. 12, 1722, 100 acres included in bounds mentioned being excluded from deed.
Wit: William Harrison, Robert Hunnicutt, Robert Glover, WYKE Hunnicutt.
Recorded Jan. 12, 1724Lydia Clements came to court and relinquished her dower right.
8-7-1759 Sussex Co. VA Account of Estate of Samuel Alsobrook, Jr. decd., by **Agniss Bass, administratix, lists payments to Lewis Solomon, WYKE Hunnicutt, Capt. John Maclin, Mr. William Hamilton, Mr. James Hamilton Jr., Joseph Tharp and Mr. John Whittington. Subscribers: Moses Johnson and Henry Jarrad.
Agniss was Agnes Morris, dau. of Thomas Morris of Brunswick Co. She first married Samuel Alsobrook Jr. and following his death she married Arthur Bass. Arthur Bass and Agnes Morris were the parents of Elizabeth Bass that married John Barnes Jr. 1803 Greensville Co. John was a brother to my second ggrandmother Elizabeth "Lizza" Barnes who married Henry Mason 1816 Greensville Co.In fact, following the deaths of Henry Mason and a few years later of Lizza, John and Elizabeth Barnes raised my great grandfather Thomas R. Mason.
Benjamin Barnes Sr.b. 21 Jan 1794 and died Nov. 28, 1846 Married Temperance Taylor b. Nov. 27, 1801 and died May 19, 1846 near Union TN. Marriage date January 7, 1817.
Their son William Taylor Barnes (21 Sept 1817-16 Jan 1892) married9-1842 Mary Newton and secondly3-1845 Fannie A. WEAKS, Weakley TN.
Lastly, in Northeast AR is some land that is shown to have been owned in the mid to late 1800's by one of my Mason ancestors and a male name Wick. I believe this to be an error and that the name should be Vick. The Vicks were close friends to the Masons in AR.
I hope something in the above will be new information.
Carolyn
