Hi Walter,
Thank you for correcting my mistake. I have no idea where from the 1339 acres came, rather than the 130. I'm sure John Lanier would have gladly welcomed 1339 acres for 10 shillings! The deed should have been noted as #148 and I instead had #146. One of those murphys laws that if any and all can be incorrect it was accomplished. John Mason was my fourth great grandfather and he was in Prince George well before purchasing his first lands in Surry Co. 1715.
You may also have the following deed referencing when the 130 acres John Lanier purchased from Thomas Chappell was sold? This is the deed:
(p. 1102)April 2, 1728, Nicholas Lanier of Brunswick Co. to Holmes Boisseau of Prince George Co. two tracts of land in Martins Brandon Parish, Pr. George Co., One tract of 130 acres is plantation where John Lanier, father of said John Lanier, lived formerly and was (...) Thomas Chappell and bounded by "antient, reputed, and known bounds". The other tract of 220 acres is part of tract patented by said John Lanier and Peter Wyke, in fork of Otterdam Swamp, on both sides thereof, bounded by Robert Hunnicutt and **Jane Wood and unpatented lands; which two tracts were left by will of John Lanier to Nicholas Lanier.
Wit: John Fitzgerald, Littlebury Epes Jr., Nicholas lanier
Mary, wife of Nicholas Lanier, reling. dower right.
Recorded May 14, 1728
Again, thanks for pointing out to me the errors in my posting.
Sincerely,
Carolyn
