He came from Troup Co, Ga to Roanoke. I have worked on this family line for years and have quite a lot of info. However I have never been able to prove that John Sledge Jr actually married Amy Chappell. This is what everyone thinks but I have never been able to connect her to the Chappell Family. The name Whitfield was passed down in every generation and I think there must be some connection to the Chappell Family. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?
