It depends on which line your researching if your line was from the Quaker side they turned away from owning slaves but on the other side almost all of the Chappell's in VA were plantation owners and owned slaves. Most slaves were givin the last name of Chappell by there owners. Which Chappell are you looking for? I have a few wills that are in a book listing out different objects including slaves. If you have a name and date of death I just might have some info.
