The 1850 census shows Hiram Chappell (born NY) married to a Polly, age 30, born in Mo. Children: Angeline, age 2 and Edwin, age 1. Four entries earlier I find an Eli D. Chappell, age 32, born in New York with his wife Mary A., age 29, born in Pennsylvania. Also in the same household are child Mary L., laborer Isaac McCarter (age 25, born in Ohio), (brother?) Amaryah Chappell, age 18, born in New York and father Hiram Chappell, age 65, born in Conn.
In the Pettis Family Cemetery in Newburg, Pike County, IL, I find Chappell, Mary Ann, d. 21 Dec 1853, aged 32 yrs, 11 mo., wife of Eli D. Chappell plus two unnamed infant children.
