William Alexander Cartwright married Elizabeth Chappelear in 1831. She was the daughter of Benj F Chappelear. William Alexander appears in various marriage and deed records as Alexander W Cartwright but his estate was settled in 1858 as William A Cartwright by his son John E. Alexander's and Elizabeth's children were Joseph Ford, William Chapaleer,John E,Ann Rebecca, Mary Wood, and Lucy Cartwright. Wm Alex died before 1847 and sons Joseph Ford and William 'Chapaleer' do not appear in the 1850 census. They would have been 17 yrs of age or less. Believe that Elizabeth died sometime before April 1858 and then John E settled the estate.
I think but am not sure that a John Cartwright was the father of Alexander W. Alexander had the following siblings, Samuel T, Ann Posey Cartwright,Theophulus and Elizabeth who married a Waters.
