In 1848 or 49 Betsy Chapman had two of her children taken away from her due to her husband being dead and her not being able to take care of them. The sheriff took 11 year old T.R. or R.T. and 6 year old Miles Gardner Chapman and basically sold them to the highest bidder as apprentices until they reached the age of 18. Taylor Richardson Chapman lived with a Fleming family and later moved to Miss. with them. I don't know where Miles went. They had at least one sister and one brother who were older and did not get apprenticed out. My question is does anyone know who these people were and from whence they came. I found them all in the 1850 census but can't find the "right family for them in 1840. Any ideas?
