Francis “Francie” A. Chapman was born November 7, 1928 to O. Emery and Minnie (Bearden) Chapman in Worthington, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Christian Faith and grew up on a farm near Worthington where he attended Worthington Public School. As a young man, he moved with his family to a farm northwest of Lake Wilson, Minnesota in 1946. On June 5, 1949, he was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler, Minnesota and on June 12, 1949, Francie married Beverly Doyscher. They made their home on a farm near Lake Wilson and continued to live there until his retirement in 1988, when they moved into Lake Wilson. After the death of his wife in 1994, Francie continued to live in Lake Wilson and worked for the Chandler Coop and several area farmers. On January 18, 1997 Francie married Linda Hovey in Lake Wilson where they made their home. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, the Lake Wilson Lions Club, the Lake Wilson Senior Citizens, and the Lake Wilson Saddle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dogs and had a love of horses. Recently, Francie moved into The Golden Living Center in Slayton, Minnesota where he died on Monday, March 17, 2008, at the age of 79.
Francie is survived by his wife Linda Chapman, Lake Wilson, MN; one daughter Karen Gleis, Worthington, MN; four sons: Donald (Carol) Chapman, Lake Wilson, MN; Ronald (Gertrude) Chapman, Alta, IA; James (Gaylene) Chapman and Michael (Carol) Chapman, both of Lake Wilson, MN; two step-daughters: Valerie (lee) Roth, Sprague, WA and Tonya (Billie) Johnson, Palm Springs, CA; one step-son Michael Avers, Seligman, MO; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; four sisters: Judy Onken, Bellevue, NE; Phyllis (Frederick) Bloemendaal, Lake Wilson, MN; Donna (Lewellyn) Wendt, Amboy, MN; and Lois (William) Slinger, Northfield, MN; one sister-in-law Agnes Chapman, Lake Wilson,MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Francie was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly; parents; one brother Harold Chapman; three grandsons and one step-grandson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN. Interment is at the Lake Wilson Cemetery.
