On 31 DEC 1835, James A. CHAPMAN of Warren Co, GA, soldto Ebenezer C. CHANDLER and Julius R. CLAPP of Muscogee Co, GA, two Negro slaves: Lucinda, a woman about 25 years of age, and her youngest child, Allen, then four months old.CHANDLER and CLAPP were business partners in Columbus, GA.In 1837, they became invested in a cotton mill (later called Clapp's Factory) three miles north of the city.This mill had been founded in 1834 by James SHIVERS and several partners, some of whom came from Warren Co, GA, and had been associated with James CHAPMAN - he had m. 1831 in Warrenton to Elmina Buffington SHIVERS (daughter of James).
Other investors in Clapp's Factory from Warren Co. included Charles D. STEWART (m. Henrietta HARGRAVES) and his children George STEWART and Henrietta (STEWART) MEIGS; Henrietta's brother and nephew, George HARGREAVES Sr. & Jr.;and John FONTAINE, who m. 1825 in Warrenton to Mary Ann STEWART, dau. of Charles & Henrietta.FONTAINE was later the first mayor of Columbus, GA.
