Research started by my father ran into a dead end in trying to find data about his great-grandfather, Valentine Chaplin, a freeman of the Levant Company. He visited North America in the 1830s, but did not stay. His son, Edward James Chaplin, emigrated to Montreal in the mid-19th C. Data about his wife, Maria Lilliott, are also hard to scare up.

Have any of you out there chasing Chaplins come across them?
