The following is a transcription of a family record found in a tattered old Bible purchased today from Merritt's Antiques in Doylestown, PA. The record appears to be that of a Quaker family living in Sabina, OH. I hope this is helpful to someone out there!

Marriages:
John H. Channel and Sarah M. Custis was married on 29th day of August A.D. 1860
James W. Channell and Laura Pavey was married on the 2nd day of Jan. 1887
Wm Burnett and Lucy M. Channell was married on the 18
George Mansneisel and Mary E. Channell was married Dec. 13th 1891
Norman Thorpe and Emma Channell was married on the 1892

Births:
Jhno H. Channel was born on 15th day March A.D. 1836
Sarah M. Channel was born on the 20th day of May A.D. 1842
Arminda A. Channel was born on 8th day of June A.D. 1861
Mary E. Channel was born on the 29 day of December A.D. 1863
Rosie E. Channel was born on the 27th day of August 1864
James W. Channel was born on 15th day of April A.D. 1866

(Above births are repeated in the next column, written in a later script, with John spelled correctly and Channel spelled Channell for each of them. Rosie’s date of birth looks like the 29th in the earlier script but is rendered a clear 27th in the later script, so I‘ve gone with the 27th as being what‘s written in the earlier script as well.)

Eddie Channel was born on 5th day of Jan. 1868
Lucy M. Channel was born on the 15th day of August A.D. 1869.
Emma A. Channel was born on the 12th day of Oct A.D. 1874
Lizzie G. Channell was born on the 15th of March 1874
John C. Channel was born on the 2nd day of Oct 1876

Deaths:
Rosie E. Channel died on the 7th day of February AD 1865
Eddie Channel died on 30th day of Nov 1868
John C. Channel died on the 28th day of Feb. 1877
John H. Channel died Apr. 5th 1880
Minda A. Channel died June 8th 1884
Lucy Channell Burnett died Mach 14, 1901
Sarah M. Channell died March 28, 1916

End of Bible Records.

There are several obituaries and Sunday School certificates from this family in the Bible. There are no places named in the Bible record itself, but the obituaries include mention of the town of Sabina. They were apparently members of the local Friends church of that community. The certificates mention Arminda and Mary Channel as being members of the Sabina Union Sunday School in 1872. There is a notice about a Miss Gertrude Channel, principal of the East Side School being honored at the Cherry Hotel and another notice about her having served a dinner where her guests were teachers from the Eastside School. There is an obituary notice of a William H. Custis Sr. who was born “near Portsmouth, O., Dec. 15, 1813 and died at his residence near Melvin June 28, 1897.” This might indicate that the family was from Ohio. There is also a lock of hair wrapped in a clipping from a newspaper from Wilmington, Ohio, which would again suggest a connection to Ohio.

Anyone interested in digital photos of the records contained in this Bible should contact me at Sharon.L.Sabol@dartmouth.edu and I will gladly send them to you. Sale of the Bible itself to a descendant of this family could be negotiated as well.
