Civil War record of Nathaniel Jefferson Chaney of Hawkins County, Tennessee

At some point during my research relating to the Chaney/Bondurant families, I remember reading a query regarding the possible military service of Nathaniel Jefferson "Jeff" Chaney. The gentleman who submitted the query had a tradition in his family that his ancestor, Jeff Chaney, served in the Army of the Confederate States of America. He was looking for evidence in order to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

This evening while doing some reaserch via the internet, I found an index listing at the Tennessee State Library and Archives showing that Malinda Jane Chaney made an application for a widow's pension based upon her deceased husband's CSA military service. Her application is pension #W3743.

I hope this helps those of you who may be looking for evidence of this gentleman's military service.
