According to the 1880 Kansas census, Stella had a brother named David who was born in 1879. The family may have tried homesteading then decided to return to Indiana, or perhaps one or both parents died and the children returned to Indiana.

A very good FREE place to search is the new Familysearch pilot site. There are many death records and census records there. Many are photo copies so that you can see the actual record rather than a transcription. Go to www.familysearch.org and then click Records Search at the top and then click pilot search.

If your family is from northern Indiana there is a good chance that they descended from northern states if they are from southern Indiana, southern states. This is not a hard and fast rule.

If your search leads you to New England, you may descend from Edmund Chandler of Duxbury, Mass. You can go to www.edmundchandler.com and then click DNA results on the left hand side to read about the early arriving Chandler families.
