This is one of the families that I question so much about, if Joseph Chandler was married to Sarah Bilbo, and they did have all these children, then where are all these children? My biggest question has been were there two Joseph Chandlers and they were combined into one person?

Most times when a man/woman wrote their will, if they named one child, they named all their children including the ones who had already received all they were receiving from the parent, or if the child was deceased, they named the heirs of that child.

From CFA newsletter dated Feb. 1994, and my questions following:

Chandler Family Association Newsletter, February 1994, Volume IV Number 1. Joseph son of Rob Chandler Bapt ye 11 August.....Register of St. Peters Parish. New Kent County, Virginia. Placement of record would indicate 1700.

(If Joseph was born Aug 11, 1691 St. Peters Parish, New Kent County, VA, why was he not registered until 1700? Doesn't make any sense. Because of the high infant death rate back then, they baptized that baby as quickly as posible. What makes sense is it's not the same Joseph Chandler.)

He went to Caroline County, Virginia in 1726 and was in Goochland County, Virginia by 1732 or 1733. He patented land adjoining Joel Chandler. 1735 Tax List Goochland Co. Virginia John Cos's list Joseph Chandler 1 Tithe. The tithe lists included heads of household and males 16-21 listed in the household as well as certain slaves that were tithable. Joseph had no sons over 16.

(the man is approx. 44 yrs old and he has no sons over 16? He's listed as marrying Sarah in about 1723, when he is approx 32 yrs of age. Most men back then didn't wait until middle age to marry the first time, and yes, 32 was middle age at that time, the average age of death being about 45. Again either he was married before he married Sarah or it's not the same Joseph Chandler.)

William and Joseph relocated to Lunenburg County about 1750. Joel's son Joel moved there by the time of the Lunenburg 1751-1752 tax list. CHA0085 gives his date of birth as 11 Aug 1692 in St. Peters Parish, New Kent County, VA and cites the Parish Register.

(who was born 11 Aug. 1692? Can't be Joel Sr. dates bear out that he was born about 1683, being the eldest son of Robert Chandler Jr. If Joel Chandler, Jr. he was born about 1730. If Joseph, then the 1700 church date can't be correct, if this is Joseph, then he is given the date of birth as 11 Aug. 1691, 11 Aug. 1692 and approx. 1700.
