I think it's pretty well established that this Robert who moved to Wilson County, TN where he died in 1805 is the son of Joell Chandler and Priscilla Mims. The soldier Joel you mention is probably a cousin. There are lots of Chandlers showing up in NC and in SC about this time and they could be progeny of the older Joell's brothers or go even farther back. They like to use and reuse the same names. Robert left VA in 1778 because of the Tory menace as he took the oath of allegiance in 1776. NC was just as bad and son Bailey got semi-established around Newberry, SC so they moved there along wth a lot of 'other' Chandlers. By 1793, they no longer own land in Wilkes, NC. Pitts died in NC, Parks moved on to GA, followed by Bailey, later. Old Robert packed up the rest with their families (and the Eddins) and moved to Lebanon, Wilson County, TN. Robert, Jr. is missing but may have died enroute - there is a Robert Chandler d. 1802 in Marion County, KY which would have been along the Wilderness Road to Tenn. Josiah pretty much stayed in Wilson County. After the 1818 Indian cession of West Tennessee, my ancestor Ryland, son of Robert, moved with his sons (including a Pitts and a Parks, my ancestor) to the area that became Jackson, TN.
That's the story as I understand it so far. I don't even attempt to untangle the other lines.
Hope this helps with this one anyway.
