Thanks for your posting.

Yes, Halifax Co formed 1752/53 from Lunenburg Co and Mecklenburg formed 1765 from Lunenburg.

JRR-William d. 1779 Halifax Co was married twice. First wife apparently Elizabeth (Unknown, won't venture a surname) and second wife Judith (Unknown, won't venture a surname) who surived him. Below an extract of William's 1779 will:

William CHANDLER Last Will & Testament Halifax ce., Virginia Will Book 1 Page 260 (Excerpt) " ... being in perfect sense and memory ... " ... "to my son, Robert CHANDLER, one cow to him & his heirs forever. To my three oldest daughters namely, Susanna wife of William LAX, Betty wife of John LE GRAND, Hannah wife of John SMALLMAN, two negroes, FILLIS & TOM & half my cattle & sheep and ten pounds apiece to be equally divided among them & their heirs forever. I have given my son, William CHANDLER one negro girl HANNA for his part of my estate. To my son Timothy, one negro boy Ben to him and his heirs. To my daughter Kesiah one negro girl F ANNE with her increase & one feather bed to her and her heirs. To my daughter Mary Ann one negro boy TOM & one feather bed to her and her heirs. T0 my son John CHANDLER, all my land on the east side of the Beaver Pond Creek to him & his heirs, To my son Frederick 150 acres of land whereon I now live & to his heirs. To my son Shadrack, all the remainder part of my land to him & his heirs. To my loving wife, Judith, one negro wench LUCEY & all the rest of my estate not mentioned to her during her natural life or widowhood & after to be equally divided between her three sons, John, Shadrack & Frederick. Exr. My son Timothy and John LE GRAND. William (W) CHANDLER Wit: John WOOD, Richard STANLEY Will Proven: 20 May 1779. Presented by Timothy CHANDLER, one of the exrs. & proved by the several witnesses. Securities: John SMALLMAN & Thomas BINGHAM

This William traveled to Lunenburg Co with a brother Joseph about 1749 or thereabout. Joseph remained in Lunenburg and died there 1764. Now either William bought land in Halifax Co or his land fell into Halifax Co.

William d.1779 and Joseph d.1764 had brother John d.1747 in Goochland Co, VA. This is the line you seem to connect to? Your Richard might be a son or a grandson to JRR-John.

A Pat Burke (whom you may know) has posted to rootsweb of the connection of your Richard to JRR-John. Her email is listed there asp b u r k e 5 2 6 a t c o m c a s t d o t n e t. And you may have already communicated with Pat.
