Hello Cheryl Regrettably, the Chandler DNA Project does not yet have any Candler testees, from anywhere, though they would be as welcome as the flowers of Spring. Like you, I would like to see a comparison of Candler and Chandler DNA test results, but that would require a comprehensive body of test results, and we still have quite a long way to go before we achieve that, even for the Chandlers alone. We will get there eventually. I agree with you that Candler has sometimes been recorded as Chandler and vice versa. As to their origins, the "Ch" sound is attributable to the French influence which was strong in England when surnames were being adopted in the general population. The harder "C" sound is more Anglo-Saxon in origin. Typically, the English language absorbed both, with the result that candles were mounted in chandeliers!
