Hello,

I belong to the Edmund Chandler Family Association, www.edmundchandler.com. I looked up your Emily in our members only section. Her father was Asa Chandler and her mother was Diana (Simmons) Chandler. From her mother's will, we found Emily Washburn listed as her daughter and one of her heirs. Interestingly, Diana cut off her son George with only one dollar. Diana had many children.

Spelling was very fluid in those days. A lot of it was mangled by clerks and phonetic spelling was also common. Polly is a common nickname for Mary. I think it goes back to Bible days. You can read about names in one of our back issues of the online newsletter.

You may enjoy visiting our website. We have lots of info. Sources for the databases are in the members only section and what we have for the public is only the tiny tip of the iceberg of what we have in our archives. As we are a research group, we always have a few projects going as no one has taken on the Edmund Chandler family as a whole before.

You are welcome to join if you wish.

Carol May

Co-chairperson of the Edmund Chandler Family Association
