Hello, John Chancey died in 1864, KIA in the Civil War, but where.. I have been unable to find out. It was very rare to transport a deceased soldier back home during the war. Usually only high ranking officers were extended that privilege. His wife was Elizabeth Catherine 'Katie' Wright, born November 1821 in South Carolina & died after 1900. They were married on January 03, 1844 in Henry County Alabama. Their children were: Spencer Chancey b. abt 1845 d. February 06, 1865 at Hatcher's Run, VA (Civil War) Benjamin Chancey b. abt 1846 d. bef. 1880 Henry County, Alabama Nancy Chancey b. 1848 Early County, Georgia d. unk date Lufkin, Angelina Co. TX. George Wyatt Chancey b. May 05, 1849 Early County, Georgia d. November 23, 1901 Lufkin, Angelina Co. TX. John Chancey b. February 1850 no further info. 'Gambial' Wyatt Chancey b. abt 1852 no further info. Louisiana Chancey b. abt 1853 no further info. Elfaim Allafoni Chancey b. abt 1854 no further info. Hope Chancey b. abt 1858 no further info. Information for this branch has been rather sketchy and I have not attempted to follow up in several years. I have never found any documentation that Soloman Chancey actually had the name King Soloman. Soloman was a son of Dempsey and Elizabeth Chancey of Bladen County, NC. It is possible that Dempsey was a son of John Chancey who relocated to Bladen County from Pasquotank/Perquimans Counties NC in 1750 +/- a couple years. King Soloman Chancey (Jr.)? was born July 09, 1863 in Lufkin, Angelina, Texas and died May 13, 1892 in Texas. He is buried at Bodan Cemetery, Angelina County Texas, married Susannah M Jordan July 01, 1891 in Lufkin. Had one daughter, Artie King Chancey b. September 25, 1892 d. March 19, 1980 m. Evan Wilson Smith October 04, 1913. one known son, Lee Hill Smith. Sorry I cannot help you more with John Chancey's military service and where he died and is buried..several months of Internet searching failed to determine anything. The following John Chancey's were all I found, and could not determine which, if any..were the correct John Chancey (I have found several Chancy/Chanceys listed as Chaney in the recent few years, and I may take another stab at locating this John Chancey shown under the Chaney listings): (Info on all John Chanceys, GA/AL/FL, found to be in the Civil War) Chancey John 11 Florida Infantry. (Confederate.) Private Chancey John K 23 Alabama Infantry. Private Chancey John C 12 Batt'n Georgia Cavalry. (State Guards.) Private Chancey John F 28 Batt'n Georgia Siege Art'y.
