I just took a peek at the 1850 Ohio census, and there is an Eli Chaney there, but the wife apparently has passed on?!?.

Eli shows a birth of 1804 in PA. he is 46 according to the 1850 census which is Union Township, Highland County, Ohio.

There is a younger female with small children in the house, Hannah Chaney shows to be age 31, born Ohio. There are 6 children ranging from 8 years down to 1. Possibly a wife.

This family is a bit young to have married in 1820.

I am almost certain the surname is Chaney. There is another family just below, Thomas F. Duncan. The lower case c in Duncan is well formed into a c. The lower case e in Chaney appears like other lower case e's I see elsewhere.

Just above Eli is Francis M Holiday...again, the lower case c in Francis is well formed.

Further down the page is a John Chaney, age 24 born Ohio and under him is a Zachariah Chaney age 32 born PA. possibly Eli's brother.

That is all I have for you. I have no relatives in that region that I am aware of.

Good luck
