Bonnie, following is what little is known about John Wesley. He MAY be the son, or grandson of Dempsey Chancey, born in Bladen County, NC Abt. 1765. This has not been proven, therefor...please understand that my base only shows Dempsey as a gfather because it seems likely. I am currently trying to locate the correct data for John Wesley. Hope this answers a few of your queries anyway. You may email or repost if I can be of further assistance. Descendants of John Wesley Chancy Generation No. 1 1. JOHN WESLEY3 CHANCY (UNKNOWN2 CHANCEY, DEMPSEY1) was born April 1818 in Darlington County, South Carolina, and died Abt. 1908 in Lake Bird, Taylor County, Florida. He married (1) MIRIAM F. Abt. 1838. She was born Abt. 1824 in South Carolina, and died in Alabama. He married (2) MARY 'POLLY' PRESTWOOD September 18, 1876 in Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida, daughter of TERRY PRESTWOOD and GILLEY SHIVER. He married (3) SUSAN JANE WILLIAMS March 29, 1900 in Perry, Taylor County, Florida. She was born May 1844 in Florida. Notes for JOHN WESLEY CHANCY: John Wesley Chancy left Coffee Coffee, Alabama with Mary Ethington and her three children by Joseph Ethington. They were in Valdosta, Lowndes Co, Ga, when their first child, James Marion Chancy was born in 1873. They came to Lake Bird,Taylor County, Florida. It was not known whether John was widowed, divorced, or had abandoned his first wife and a large family of children in Alabama. The three children born to John and Mary were named for three of John's children who were deceased. The Alabama family knew where John was located, since a son named Mitchell came when John died in Taylor County to see he left an estate. John had an only known sibling, a brother, Amos, in Alabama. Mitchell had a son, Robert, who visited John Wesley Chancy, 1893-1982, at Wacissa, Jefferson County, Florida, date unknown.
