Jean, I live near Columbus/Bladen Counties, NC, and I have recently documented the surname change from Chancy to Chauncey there. I know exactly what you mean on that. I would be interested in any data you may have in the eastern NC counties, where the surname changed from Chance to Chancey/Chancy or, vice-versa. There is a William Chance in Pitt County in the 1700's that could fit into my search data.
