I think we are talking about different Lonnie Chances.
The Lonnie Chance recorded in Stephen Chance's household in the 1880 census was then 4 years old, which would put his birth date around 1876.
JULIA ANN EAVES - Born 10 July 1862, probably in San Augustine County, Texas; died 9 Feb. 1937 in Shelby County, Texas. Married JAMES B. CHANCE 15 Sept. 1881, San Augustine County.
According to my research, Julia Ann Eaves was Malinda Eaves' niece, not her sister.
When the James and Julia Chance were recorded in the 1920 census, they had in their household a son, Lon, then listed as age 18. This would probably be the Lonnie Lawrence Chance you are talking about.
I know almost nothing about the children of James B. Chance and Julia Eaves and would love to get your father in law's information on their children to include in my book.
