I believe this William and Nancy below is your people. I found this at the LDS just now, I do not understand how I missed it the first time there. Since their transcriber indicated a C instead of a J for the middle initial, I rechecked against the actual census...it is a C. Either William had more than one middle name (very possible) or whoever gave the family info to the census taker made a mistake. Never take census data as final data..it is quite often wrong, and one of the reasons is..if the family is not home, he may ask a neighbor across the street or down the road....all he is interested in is numbers with names..and approximate ages.

Effie is out of the nest by 1900 because Nannie V. was born in 1882 and is the eldest child in the family...this is one way to piece a family together by searching the censuses each 10 years.

William C. CHANCE Self M Male W 23 GA Farmer GA GA
Nancy CHANCE Wife M Female W 25 GA Keeps House GA GA
Effie CHANCE Dau S Female W 1 GA GA GA
Sallie CHANCE Sister S Female W 12 GA GA GA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Source Information:
Census Place District 59, 1880 census, Emanuel, Georgia

By the way, I forgot to add when Wm and Nancy were married. In the 1900 census that question was asked, and their response was 23 years. They were married in 1877.

The question about how many children that they have had and living...Nancy answered she has had 8 and there are still 8 living.

Something does not fit here because they have 8 children in their house in 1900 and Effie is gone. She may have died and who knows who talked to the census taker...or, Effie may have married several years ago..and the individual talking to the census taker forgot...just counting heads at home, etc.

This is one example to not rely completely on any one source...always get more sources if at all possible..
