Thanks so much for answering my query, and the information on the Chance family.
I was trying to connect my gggrandmother, Edie to the Chance family. In the 1850 Clay Co IN Census, Edie and her husband Kelsey Shepard/Shepherd and their first child, Tilman were living next door to a Tilman Chance and his family. Going by living next door, child named Tilman and Edie's age compared to Tilman Chance and wife, I thought she might have been related to the Chance family, maybe even their daughter. Edie and Kelsey left Clay Co Indiana sometime in the 1850s. They were in Iowa where daughter Nancy was born, then in Carroll Co AR by 1860. Edie widowed, was in Stone Co MO before 1870. Kelsey died in the Civil War. Do you know of any connection between the two families? My ggrandmother's death certificate listed her mother as Edie Oliver born NC. Martha
