Yo, Wanda, Good to hear from you. I can't seem to find your e address, so will respond this way.I have been really slacking off on genealogy lately, and appreciate you message. No one in the family had mentioned that Alpheus had been married more than once, and I only found that record in the last year. I did not have Anna's last name.
Apparently he was actually married 3 times. On 23 Nov. 1871 an Alpheus Chance married Dora Johnston (b. 1851 in MO) in Loudon , TN. Because he moved to Loudon before 1879 , and because the dates fit so well this is probably my Alpheus. I can't find a record of children by Dora. I have listed as children by Anna: John 1859, Hiram 1861, Martha 1863.
He married Dorcus Bennett Roberts 30/oct/1879 in Bearden, TN. Children from this marriage were Charlotte Idell b. 1880, and Arthur b. 1882, both in Loudon. mixed in with this family were two other children I haven't been able to place, O.Hendle, b. 1855 and Charlotte b. 1857. In 1870 these two were living with Elizabeth in MN. We may never find out exactly what Elizabeth's name was, there are so many variations of the spelling. It was something like Dienstman.
