I wonder if your Edward Champion (b.1650) could have been a brother of my ncestral stepfather (Diana Bragg Barnes' second husband) John Champion.

I notice that Edward named a son Orlando.

Diana's first husband, Thomas Barnes (1640-83), was the son of Ann Jones Barnes (daughter of Rowland Jones). Ann's brother Orlando Jones was Martha Washington's ancestor.

Nothing else to imply any connection, except that the names Champion and Orlando aren't that common, in my opinion.

I suppose if I had the Champion-Powe book, it might answer this question. If I had more information at hand on the Jones, Barnes, Champion families, it would help, too. I understand there's a book on the Sumrall family mentioning the Rowland Jones and Barnes families, but I've not seen that either.

Incidentally, my half brother was actually a Champion descendant. I don't have his Champion line before the 1700s, though.
