My gg-grandmother was Patience Champion, married to John McGriff. They lived in Bradley Co., near the Hamilton Co. line. Her parents were William Champion and Frances Cook, who went from SC to Franklin Co. Tn to Ala to Bradley Co., arriving there abt 1840. John McGriff is buried in the old Champion Cemetery which someone destroyed with a bulldozer several years ago, all but his tomstone. William, Patience and several McGriffs are buried in the old Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland. David Champion, I believe it was a son, was sheriff of the county immediately after the Civil War.
