Capt. Charles Champion of Tennessee
I'm researching the Civil War regiment 4th Tennessee Cavalry (Union), and in Co E of that regiment there was a Captain CHARLES D. CHAMPION.He was age 39 when he enlisted Feb 10, 1863.
I have found him in the 1850, 1860, and 1900 censuses. Here is the pedigree I developed from the 1850 (Hamilton Co., TN) and 1860 (Bradley Co., TN) censuses:
Descendants of William Champion
1 William Champion b: Abt. 1803 in South Carolina
+Unknown b: Bet. 1800 - 1810
...... 2 Charles Champion b: 1823 in TN
.......... +Sarah E. b: Abt. 1829 in TN
.............. 3 John C. Champion b: Abt. 1850 in TN
.............. 3 William G. Champion b: Abt. 1852 in TN
.............. 3 Mary F. Champion b: Abt. 1854 in TN
.............. 3 James C. Champion b: Abt. 1857 in TN
.............. 3 Willis L. Champion b: Abt. 1858 in TN
...... 2 Jane Champion b: Abt. 1834 in TN
...... 2 Susan Champion b: Abt. 1836 in TN
...... 2 William Champion b: Abt. 1838 in TN
*2nd Wife of William Champion:
.+Adaline b: Abt. 1813 in South Carolina
......m: 1850 in TN
The problem is a discrepancy I find in the 1900 census (Hamilton Co., TN).In that census, his wife is listed as "Jane C.", born Aug 1834, and it is stated that they were married for 45 years. This contradicts the marriage info in the 1860 census.Could this "Jane" in the 1900 census be his sister instead of his wife?Or am I looking at two different Charles Champions?
