KEZIAH CHAMPION / DELILAH CHAMPION / RICHARD CHAMPION
I'm a Champion descendant who, along with several other descendants, are looking to connect our ancestor Keziah Champion to her parents. She lived from 1816-1887 possibly born in and from Rutherford Co, NC. Married James Drake; both he and she are buried at Pleasant Hill near Hendersonville / Flat Rock NC. Children born to them married Buckners, Phillips, Brigmans, Anders, and others.
Theory is she is a daughter of Richard Champion and Delilah Champion, who were cousins.I have a GEDCOM on this family if you need info.
Delilah was born to William "Buck" Champion (abt 1745 Granville Co, NC to 1816 in York Co, SC) and wife (Sarah). Delilah's date of birth is abt 1775-1780, I've seen some undocumented evidence it may be slightly later.
Richard was born to John Champion (abt 1730 to 1823 d. in Rutherford Co, NC) and wife KEZIAH. Richard's date of birth is also abt 1775-1780.
Both John and William were sons of John Champion SR (abt 1705-1787, Granville Co, NC.) and Sarah Goodall (no other information available on her)
Richard and Delilah had unknown and unnammed female household members as listed on census records whose birth was about the time of Keziah's. We are looking for evidence of her being one of these daughters. So much information points in that direction.
Note - this Keziah was NOT an "Indian Princess" or of Native American descent, to the best of our knowledge. The family has absolutely no evidence of her being such. If that evidence exists we would consider it and reevaluate our belief if proven.
There may have been another Keziah with a married or Americanized version name which translated to Champion. There is a Keziah who married a Champion and is a grandmother of "our" Keziah (see above) but we have no maiden name for her.
We are also looking for living female line descendants of DELILAH Champion who have DNA on file or who would be interested in taking a mtDNA test. We would need it for comparison as we have found a living female line descendant of KEZIAH for test and are waiting on her decision to test. This test would only show if the two shared a common female ancestor at some point, not an actual family relationship. Our thought is the matching test combined with the paper we have would allow us to accept what we have and close the case :)
Thank you for your help. Thank you also to Cathy S. for her compilation of the info quoted here.
