My great grandfather was Leonard E Champion. He died when my grandmother (Velma) was appox. 1 year old in an accident. We know very little of him or his family. I have found him in an 1900 census in Madison Co, Texas. It list his mother as Mattie or Margie Champion born Sept,1873 and she is a widow and head of household. Her parents are listed as being from Mississippi and Texas. His brother Benny F. Champion is also listed, he was born January, 1887 in Texas. Leonard married my Great Grandmother Nina Exia Carter and I have not found a record of their marriage. My grandmother Velma Champion Mullis was born April 9, 1909 in Montgomery Co., TX. The family also has a surname as Greer for his mother. The key is to find out if Benny F went on to marry and grow old. We have also been told he went by Frank Champion. Thanks to anyone who could lend a hand in my investigation.
