Joel & Richard, I think that my TRAVIS line may fit in here somewhere. I know that the TRAVIS family owned about 2/3 of Jamestown Island, VA. at one time. I also know that the the surnames TRAVIS, CHAMPION, EDWARD(S) and MARABLE often time's show up together. My ggg-grandfather was Philip TRAVIS. As far back as I have traced him is 1820 in Jefferson Co, TN. The 1860 Tenn. Census says that he was born 1785 in VA. I just haven't been able to find out where in VA. or who his patents were for certain. So, I am trying to figure out if my Philip TRAVIS is connected to that William TRAVIS that is listed on the War monument in Warren CO, GA.? I also know that there were TRAVIS family in Edgefield & Abbeville, SC. Are these two TRAVIS families related? Are they related to the TRAVIS family of Warren Co., GA? Did some of these families move to eastern TENN.? Joel, I also find it interesting that your last name is RANE as I have a RAINS family connection from AL. I believe that I read where either the TRAVIS family from Edgefield or Abbeville were related to Col. TRAVIS of the Alamo fame. Col. William B. TRAVIS lived for awhile in AL. before going to TEXAS. Can you tell me anything of your RANE family? Does anyone have the surnames of GOODE, WILLIAMS, or McCREARY? Do you have any info on a Edward CHAMPION anywhere in your files? I recieved this note awhile back regarding MARABLE,CHAMPION & TRAVIS>>>> "William Marable's second wife may have been a member of the family of Edward Travis of James City Co., although no record of her name, nor of such a Travis family member, has been found. In a letter dated 18 Nov 1747 to William's brother, Henry Hartwell Marable, Edward Champion Travis subscribed his name as "you Friend and Relation," but I am aware of no other direct evidence of any Please reply to me directly as I do not generally check this surname page. blakley3@earthlink.net
