I'm interested to know which Champion child your wife is descended from. I am descended from John "Jack" and Naomi Jane's only daughter, also Naomi Jane. We can't find any info on the 2nd NJ's husband, James Riffe. We believe he was a cattle rustler and fled to Nueces County to avoid arrest.
