More exciting news - I think we're 2nd cousins! I received a copy of the 1901 census today for 13 Gay Street. As well as Robert and his wife, there were 6 children:
Henry Edwin (8) - your grandfather
Mary Ann (7)
Ethel Mary (5)
Robert Thomas (4)
Charlotte Ann (2)
Edward Victor (7 months) - my grandfather
Looking at the BMD records, Robert Thomas Junior may have had a twin brother called Percy Thomas. I'd have to check the birth certificate but 2 'Champion' births were recorded at the same time.
I believe that my grandfather's (and yours, of course!) parents died when he was about 13 and he was brought up by his older brother. That must have been Henry Edwin.
